PEP for Non-Profit Startup

Accelerator Program

PEP for Non-Profit Startup supports organizations aiming to achieve significant impact in the non-profit sector.

About PEP for Non-Profit Startup

PEP focuses on Non-Profit Startups (NPS) that achieve significant social impact in a short period within the non-profit sector.

Non-Profit Startups are organizations that aim for rapid growth based on social impact rather than the business evaluation metric of profit, by utilizing technology and policy. Examples of such Non-Profit Startups include:

  • 80,000 hours: A non-profit organization providing job support and career matching services with an emphasis on the social impact of employment. They achieve expanded social impact by providing web-based services (technology utilization).

  • B Lab's B Corp Certification System: A system where the U.S. non-profit organization B Lab assesses and issues B Corp certification to for-profit companies with high public benefit. In parallel with operating this system, they also work on policy advocacy, and many states in the U.S. have legalized Benefit Corporations (for-profit companies that pursue social objectives in addition to business income) as a new corporate entity.

(For more details, please refer to this article by PEP Director Umada.)
