言行不一致 人間は複雑です。私たちはしばしば、環境に優しい選択をしたいと口にしますが、実際には異なる行動を取ります。 気候変動に対する個人の行動は、理屈の上では素晴らしく聞こえます。もし多くの人が電気自動車や自転車を選び、太陽光パネルを設置し、エネルギー効率の高い家を建てたら、その集団的な行動は排出削減の目標に貢献するでしょう。また、乳製品や肉の消費を減らす、LED照明を導入する、包装の少ない商品を買うといった選択肢もあります。 日常的な行動も気候に貢献できます。たとえば、冷水で洗濯する、エアコンの設定温度を下げすぎたり暖房の温度を高くしすぎたりしない、または重ね着をすることなどです。また、リサイクル、修理、再利用といった行動は、製品の寿命を延ばし、廃棄物を減らし、節約にもつながります。 しかし、個人の行動は現実にはもっと複雑です。それは、私たち自身が複雑な存在だからです。 調査を行えば、多くの人が環境に優しい持続可能な商品を求めていると答えますが、実際に店に行くと、多くの人は[そのような商品を買いません](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0959652623028986)。私の研究者チームは、この現象を「[二面性のある消費者現象](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/bse.686)」と呼んでいます。つまり、私たちはあることを口にしながら、実際には別のことをしてしまうのです。 なぜそうなるのでしょうか？ その理由の一つとして、多くの消費者は、電気自動車や洗剤などにおいて環境に優しい製品は[性能が低い](https://hbr.org/2019/07/the-elusive-green-consumer)と信じています。また、グリーンな製品は[高価で使いにくい](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/bse.686)と考えられています。 さらに、美徳シグナリングという問題もあります。これは、本当に環境のことを配慮しているわけではない消費者が、環境に配慮している人間であるということを[周囲に示す](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0969698923002825)ために、周囲からの注目を集めやすい環境に優しい製品を購入する現象です。 しかし、これらの課題の一部は克服されつつあります。化石燃料の車よりも加速が速く運転コストが安い電気自動車のことを低品質なものとして退けることは難しいでしょう。かつては美徳シグナリングと見なされていた太陽光パネルの設置ですが、[CSIROの調査](https://www.csiro.au/-/media/EF/Files/Energise-insights/Insight-56-Adoption-of-solar-power.pdf)によれば、多くのオーストラリアの家庭は電気代の節約を主な理由として設置しています。   ##
